Wondering
how all the celebrities have such long, thick, shiny hair? It seems
so effortless for them to look fabulous. Hair extensions can do that
for you too. They can give you a look that your natural hair can never
achieve. Whether you desire length, volume, or funky color that won’t
fade-extensions are the answer.
What
are Hair Extensions?
They
are additions of human or monofilament hairs that are attached from
the base of your hair close to the scalp to create instant volume, texture
and length. Once applied, they can be styled, washed and in most cases
treated like the rest of your own hair.
Why would you want hair extensions?
As
you glance across virtually every print medium there seems to be one
thing in common as far as hair styles go. The long hair is everywhere.
So what are you supposed to do if you don’t have long hair and
you desire long or voluminous hair? Human hair grows about ½”
per month, so if your hair is to your ears, it would take almost two
years to achieve that ‘hair cascading down your back’ look.
Hair extensions offer the opportunity to change your look dramatically
in only a few hours.
How are the extensions applied?
There
are several techniques used. The removable extensions use a clip on
method while the semi permanent uses the fusion method also know as
the Thermal bonding System. The temperature, which is approximately
the same temperature as the lowest setting on a standard curling iron,
is used to soften the Keratin (the protein that hair is comprised of
) bond so it can be molded to your natural hair. Unlike other systems,
where glue guns and wax melting pots are used, the applicator allows
for a very clean and precise application. Hair is attached about ¼"
from your scalp and looks totally natural.
The result is undetectable attachments that are brushable, durable and,
most importantly, non-damaging to your natural strands.
“No one can visually see that you have hair extensions. It’s
up to you if you want everyone to know”.
Can Extensions be colored?
Yes.
The applied extensions can be colored to match your hair color or to
whatever look you so desire. Due to the possible difference in textures
and composition of the hair extensions versus your natural hair we recommend
getting the color treatment professionally applied.
What
about cutting and styling?
Hair
styling of the finished extensions is included in the price of the service.
You can discuss your required look at the time of the consultation and
when the service is performed. You can style your hair using all most
all of your current tools etc. We provide you with a care guide and
go through it with you.
Who
applies the extensions?
Only
licensed cosmetologists that have received and been certified in the
application of hair extensions. Currently on our staff the following
cosmetologists can apply hair extensions:
Jennifer
Conroy, Jenna Garza, Yuri Gonzalez, Debra Hanaway, Ian Marszalek, Jessie
Nosek
Michelle Pasterski, Norma Rodriguez, Jimmy Spratt & Jeanine Vena
How long do they last?
Most
extensions, when applied properly, will last up to four months. After
this the special glue-like bond attached to your natural hair can begin
to loosen and fall off. This can be remedied by having touch up extensions
applied to replace any that are missing.
How
about care and maintenance?
Hair extensions are washed and treated the same way as you do your natural
hair. Therefore, extensions do tend to wear out with normal wash and
wear. As your hair grows, this will tend to affect the extensions. It
is recommended that you use high quality gentle hair care products to
encourage a long life for your extensions. Your stylist will go over
the care and maintenance aspects during the consultation
Caring for hair extensions is a bit different from caring for natural
hair. Some things that you should know.
• Use a soft bristle brush and brush your hair at the nape and
gently work your way up. We supply you with a brush suitable for hair
extensions as part of the service.
• Gently tie your hair up or place into a soft scrunchy while
sleeping to prevent tangling while sleeping.
• Clients should never color, perm, and or used any other types
of chemicals without consulting their stylist first.
• Don't spray your extensions with conditioners or any silicone
based products as they can cause the braids to slip.
How do you Remove Extensions?
Removal of hair extensions can be done by the professional that applied
them. When it comes time to remove extensions, a special solvent is
applied to the bonded area, which will soften the tips. Using the solvent
helps prevent breakage, and will also remove any residue left on the
client's hair.
